Roots and Shoots Conference - July 2009
|
Held at Christ Church Kenilworth in
Cape Town.
Speakers: Revd John Atkinson & Edith Sher
Who's law is it anyway
To what extent should Gentiles and Jewish believers be Torah observant
today? What lessons can we learn from the first followers of Yeshua?
John Atkinson explores the process by which the gospel was taken to the Gentile
community by the Jewish Yeshua movement usually referred to as the early Church.
Using the Book of Acts he explores the relationship between Gentiles and the
Torah and analyses the first century experience to explain why the modern Church
should support the developing Messianic Movement. John calls for a maturity in
the Body of the Messiah that can cope with diversity.
Edith Sher addresses the
issue of our attitude to the Torah. The traditional Christian view of Torah is a
collection of laws that are impossible to keep. Edith demonstrates how the
giving of the Torah should be understood as a marriage covenant, and looks at
the relationship between Torah and the Holy Spirit.
