Roots and Shoots Conference - February
2010
|
Held at Christ Church Kenilworth in
Cape Town.
Speakers: Revd John Atkinson & Edith Sher
Yeshua and the Messianic Mission
It is often said that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah. Did Jesus believe
that He was the Divine Messiah? What does the evidence show?
John Atkinson examines the extent to which Jesus was personally aware of his
messianic identity. Focusing initially on the events and statements that
accompanied Jesus' birth John begins by looking at what Jesus would have heard
from his family. John then analyses Jesus' words and actions later in His
ministry to answer the question “Does Yeshua display a self concept of a divine
Messiahship or just an earthly one?”
Edith Sher looks at correlations between the Hebrew Scriptures and the New
Testament. She focuses on two incidents in John's gospel that cast light on the
kind of Messiah Yeshua would prove to be, namely, the calling of Nathaniel and
the wedding at Cana.
